چکیده

In this paper, a novel congestion-control scheme with dynamic Burst-Contention Loss notifications in Optical Burst Switching (OBS) networks is proposed. The proposed scheme, called TCP-BCL, aims to handle various OBS bursty conditions that negatively affect TCP throughput performance and fairness. The basic design principle of the scheme is to tune the congestioncontrol parameters α and β such that the congestion window sizes in the corresponding TCP senders can be adjusted with an explicit notification from the OBS edge node. The performance impact on TCP in terms of burst dropping due to random contention, which is also known as false congestion detection is considered and investigated. An analytical model is developed and further verified through extensive simulation.

SAIMD: A Novel False Congestion Detection Scheme in TCP over OBS Networks

Due to the bufferless nature, TCP over Optical Burst Switched (OBS) networks suffer from false congestion detection, where a packet loss event due to random burst contention in a lightly-loaded OBS network may trigger TCP congestion control mechanisms, thereby degrading the performance of TCP. This phenomenon is particularly serious for the TCP flows with very high bandwidth, where returning to...

“ TCP Over OBS : To Split or Not To Split ? ”

Internet technology has advanced significantly over last decade. Now Internet is used not only to check emails or access information. Today’s Internet demands services such as video on demand, grid computing and very high data send rates which are bursty in nature. Current technology is unable to service such high bandwidth demands. Optical Burst Switching (OBS) technology shows huge potential ...

Cost-Throughput Analysis of a Modified TCP for Optical Burst Switched Networks

Performance of existing TCP implementations over Optical Burst Switched (OBS) networks is not satisfactory, as they suffer from false congestion detection. As the contention induced losses are more common than congestion induced losses in OBS, the TCP reduces the congestion window even when there is no congestion. This effect, in turn unnecessarily reduces the TCP throughput. So it is crucial t...

Improvement of TCP Performance over Optical Burst Switching Networks

Transmission Control Protocol (TCP) performance over optical burst switching (OBS) is experimentally investigated on an OBS network testbed. The effect of burst losses on TCP performance over the OBS testbed is studied and the result shows that burst losses will lead to a network wide drop in TCP throughput and there exists an optimal assembly period to maximize the available TCP bandwidth. The...

A novel implementation of TCP Vegas for optical burst switched networks

TCP performance over bufferless Optical Burst Switched (OBS) networks could be significantly degraded due to the misinterpretation of network congestion status (referred to as false congestion detection). It has been reported that burst retransmission in the OBS domain can improve the TCP throughput by hiding burst loss events from the upper TCP layer, which can effectively reduce the congestio...
